The rapid fire crossbow is what the repeating crossbow wishes it were.  With a large stock of 30 bolts a clip and an autoloading mechanism which functions just by holding down the trigger, the rapid fire crossbow brings firepower to your fingertips.  The crossbow loads itself as a free action as long as their is ammo in the stock.  As a full-round action you can also make an extra attack as if using the [[SRD:Rapid Shot|Rapid Shot]] feat, but you take a -2 penalty on all attacks.  The benefits and penalties stack with the actual Rapid Shot feat.  Replacing the stock of a rapid fire crossbow is a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity.

Normally, operating a rapid fire crossbow requires two hands. However, you can shoot, but not load, a rapid fire crossbow with one hand at a -2 penalty on attack rolls. You can shoot a rapid fire crossbow with each hand, but you take a penalty on attack rolls as if attacking with two light weapons.  This penalty is cumulative with the penalty for one-handed firing.
